About Us

The Society for Free Culture and Software is an organisation for people with ideas. We know that there are a million and more people around the world with ideas. Every idea is a possibility to change the world for the better. The aim of the society is to, within the area of Free Culture and Software, help people implement their ideas.

In the society we work together, even if different people are working in different project. We try to do what we can to get our members started and drive their ideas forward. For instance, we try to give financial contribution to each new project which is started, while at the same time requesting that those projects that receive external funding also contribute to the organisations overall finances, allowing more projects to benefit. The money is used to fund newly started projects, which can be as easy as giving 100 Euros to print some brochures or buy CDs. Small amounts can sometimes help enormously, and while the society doesn't have a lot of money to work with, we try to help where we can!

The Organisation

The members control the society and at every yearly summit, normally taking place towards the end of the year, they decide which activities the society should prioritise and elect a board which is responsible for overseeing that this is done. The board appoints an executive director who has as his or her task to coordinate the work between the different projects, as well as to deal with the administration of the society.

Depending on the size of each individual project, they may have one or more persons participating in a project group responsible for the project. Together with the executive director and other projects, they coordinate the work within the organisation. In the daily work, members and supporting organisations have significant influence since the activities of the members in large part determines the agenda of the society.

The current board, elected in 2009, consists of Mathias Klang (president), Marcus Rejås, and Henrik Sandklef. The auditor is Karl Jonsson and executive director is Jonas Öberg
